기업사

컴푸컴은 1987년 벤처캐피털사인 세이프가드 사이언티픽스가 설립한 회사다.전임 머신비전인터내셔널이 합병된 컴푸컴이라는 이름을 붙인 세이프가드 사이언티픽스 산하에 컴퓨터 중심 기술 기업 트리스타 데이터시스템과 오피스 오토메이션 두 곳을 인수하면서 시작됐다.[4]

세이프가드 사이언티픽스(Safety Scientifics)의 과반수 소유 아래 컴푸컴은 1987년 공기업으로 등극했다.또한 그해 벨 애틀랜틱에서 컴푸샵 소매점 체인을 인수해 달라스 본사로 입주했다.컴푸샵의 제임스 W. 딕슨 사장은 컴푸컴의 CEO로 임명되어 1987년부터 1996년까지 재직했으며 탈퇴와[5][6] 함께 이사회 의장이 되었다.

세이프가드 사이언티픽스는 2004년까지 컴푸컴의 과반수 지분을 보유해 연간 15억 달러의 매출을 올리는 회사로 만들었다.

컴푸컴은 2000년 12월 파산한 모기업 마이크로에이지의 최대 사업부 중 하나인 마이크로에이지 테크놀로지 서비스의 자산을 매입했다.여기에는 MicroAge의 나머지 위치 서비스 네트워크가 모두 포함되었다.

세이프가드는 딕슨을 CEO로 선임한 약 1억2800만달러에 달하는 사모투자회사인 플래티넘에 2004년 컴푸컴을 매각했다.[7][6]또한 그해 컴푸컴은 제너럴 일렉트릭의 자회사인 GE ITS(Ge Capital Information Technology Solutions)를 인수해 최종 사용자, 네트워크, 컨설팅 서비스 포트폴리오를 확대했다.[8]그 후 CompuCom은 Jamf Pro, VMware 등의 파트너 및 리셀러가 되었다.

컴푸컴은 2008년 미국 Getronics 사를 인수했으며,[9] 2009년에는 Getronics 및 기타 IT 서비스 제공업체와 제휴하여 사상 최초의 글로벌 IT 제공업체 연합인 Getronics Workspace Alliance를 결성했다.[10]

2013년에 CompuCom은 Thomas H에게 팔렸다. 역시 사모펀드인 리파트너스가 11억달러를 받고 있다.[11][12]

딕슨은 2015년 최고경영자(CEO)에서 물러나고 이사회 의장직을 재개했으며 2016년 댄 스톤으로 교체된 돈 닥터에 의해 CEO로 교체됐다.[13][14][15]
