Manfred Börner (16 March 1929 in Rochlitz – 15 January 1996) was a German physicist.
Life
Börner he suggested and developed the first working fiber-optical data transmission system in 1965. He received a patent for an "electro-optical transmission system utilizing lasers".[1][2] From 1954 to 1979 he worked for the German Telefunken GmbH. Later, from 1979 to 1995, he was professor at the Technical University Munich.
