자율 에이전트와 멀티 에이전트 시스템은 카티아 시카라(Carnegie Mellon University) 창립 편집장(Carnegie Mellon University)에 의해 1998년 봄 설립되었다. 현재 편집장은 마이클 럭(킹스칼리지 런던)과 칼레스 시에라(스페인 국립연구위원회 인공지능연구소)이다.[1]
