나다니엘 찰스 컴포트(Nathaniel Charles Comfort)는 생물학사를 전문으로 하는 미국의 역사학자다.그는 존스 홉킨스 대학 의학사 연구소의 부교수다.[1]2015년에는 존 W. 클루게 센터(Baruch S. Blumberg NASA/Library of Council Library of Congress Center)에서 제3대 아스트로바이오학(Astrobiology)의 바루치 S. Blumberg NASA/Library of Committee) 회장에 임명되었다.[2]그는 또한 METI(Messaging Otheral Intelligence)의 자문 위원회에서 활동하고 있다.

'컴포트'는 2001년 바바라 맥클린톡의 전기 '더 엉킨 필드: 바바라 맥클린톡의 유전자 조절 패턴 찾기'로 가장 잘 알려져 있다.그는 맥클린톡의 요소 제어 작업에 대한 반응을 재해석했다는 평을 받았다.[3]그의 2012년 저서 '인간완벽의 과학'은 미국의 인간과 의학 유전학의 역사를 고찰한다.그는 유전자 편집의 발전과 미국의 우생학 운동과의 관계에 대해 썼다.[4][5][6]그는 생명의 기원 연구에서 게놈 혁명의 역사를 연구하고 있다.[2]

교육

컴패션은 1985년 버클리 캘리포니아 대학에서 해양생물학 학사학위를 받았다.그는 1990년 코넬 대학교에서 신경생물학과 행동학 석사학위를 받았다.콜드 스프링 하버 연구소에서 과학 작가로 일한 뒤 1997년 스토니 브룩 대학에서 역사학 박사 과정을 마쳤다.[7][8]

경력

컴패션은 1997년부터 2003년까지 조지 워싱턴 대학교의 역사연구센터의 부교수 겸 부소장이었다.[8]그는 2003년에 존스 홉킨스 교수진에 합류했다.[9]

그는 과학학회 및 국제생물학사철학회의 역사철학사회연구회 소속이다.그는 생명과학의 역사와 철학 논설위원이다.[9]컴포트(Comfort)는 네이처 2001~2019년에 30편의 수필과 리뷰를 발표했으며, 잡지 창간 150주년을 기념하기 위해 선정된 몇 안 되는 작가 중 한 명이었다.[10]

개인적인

위안부는 1993년 분자생물학자 캐롤 W그리더와 결혼했다.그들에게는 두 아이가 있다.[11]그들은 2011년에 이혼했다.[12]
