The Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SBRAS) was established by the Decree of the Government of the USSR which was based on the proposal of Mikhail Lavrentyev, Sergei Sobolev and Sergey Khristianovich in 1957 as a regional division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, replacing a previous small branch of the Academy of SciencUSSR의 es. 노보시비르스크 국립대학은 시베리아 분교의 참모기지 역할을 하기 위해 설립되었다.
라브렌티예프는 지부의 창립 회장이기도 했다.[1]

시베리아 지부는 엘스비에와 연계하여 고고학, 유라시아 민족학 및 인류학, 지리학 및 천연자원 등 두 개의 학술지를 발간하고 있다.[1]
