수비르 비탈 코칸(1959년 10월 3일 ~ 2019년 7월 30일)[1]은 아난드 신하, K.C. 차크라바티, H.R.Khan과 함께 인도준비은행의 4대 부총재 중 한 명이었다.[2]2013년 1월 우르지트 파텔로 교체됐다.

2009년 11월 19일 인도정부에 의해 임명되어 2009년 11월 24일부터 3년 임기로 재임한 그는 라케쉬 모한의[5] 뒤를 이어 6개월간 임무를 맡았고 미국 스탠포드 대학교의 스탠포드 국제개발센터(Stanford Center for International Development)에 입사했다.[4][6]

Prominent economists like Jahangir Aziz (Chief Economist, JP Morgan) and Dr. Arvind Virmani (Senior Economic Advisor -Ministry of Finance (India)) were also considered for the post that was eventually handed to Dr. Gokarn after a decision by a search panel headed by Duvvuri Subbarao and comprising Janki Ballabh (former SBI Chairman) and Vepa Kamesam(전 부지사-타점).[7]

고카른 박사는 인도준비은행 부총재로 임명되기 전인 2007년 8월부터 글로벌 신용평가사 스탠더드앤드푸어스(S&P) 아태지역 수석 이코노미스트였다.[8]크리스틸의 리서치앤정보 사업부장이자 인도은행 이사 내정자였다.[10]

49세에 임명된 고카른 박사는 76년 역사상 최연소 RBI 부지사 중 한 명으로 금통부, 통계정보관리부, 경제분석정책부, 신용보증공사, 통신예금보험부 등을 총괄했다.G-20 하원의원 포럼에서 준비 은행을 소개하다.[11]

그 후 수비르는 독립적인 싱크탱크인 브루킹스 인도에 리서치앤브룩스 선임연구위원으로 합류했다.2019년 7월 30일 사망하였다.

교육

고카른 박사는 뭄바이 성 자비에르 대학을 경제학 학사(1979년)와 경제학 석사학위(1981년) 델리 경제대학원을 졸업했다.2년 동안 산업 비용 및 물가국에서 근무한 후, 그는 1989년에 받은 미국 케이스 웨스턴 리저브 대학의 경제학 박사 과정을 밟았다.[12]그는 풀브라이트 학자로 미국 예일 대학교의 경제 성장 센터에서 1997년에 받은 풀브라이트 연구 펠로십에서 학년을 보냈다.
