타이논은 스코틀랜드 남서부 더프리스와 갈로웨이의 마을이자 시민 교구로 모니아베에서 2마일(3.2km) 떨어진 시넬수(Shinnel Water)의 움푹 들어간 곳에 누워 있다.

Tynron Doon에서는 로마 철기 시대 언덕 포트의 도랑과 성벽이 보인다.

타이론이라는 이름은 아마도 'lance-fort'[1]라는 뜻의 컴브릭 딘 론에서 왔을 것이다.
