Wave Money (Burmese: ဝေ့မန်းနီး) is a mobile financial services provider in Myanmar which was established in 2016. 본사는 미얀마 양곤에 있다.

역사

웨이브 머니는 텔레노르 그룹, 요마 은행, 요마 전략 홀딩스, 퍼스트 미얀마 인베스트먼트 등이 합작해 2015년 설립됐다.[1] 웨이브 머니의 창립 CEO는 2008년 윙 캄보디아 설립자였던 경험이 있는 모바일 금융 서비스 부문 임원 브래드 존스였다. 웨이브 머니는 2016년 8월 미얀마의 새로운 모바일 금융 서비스 규정에 따라 일하는 최초의 비은행 기관이 될 수 있는 라이선스를 받았다.[2] 웨이브 머니 출시 두 달여 만에 가입자 수가 10만명에 달했고 2018년 3월 기준 130만명에 달했다.[1][3]

2018년 한 해 동안 미얀마 국내총생산([5]GDP)의 약 2%인 13억달러에 거래액이 증가했고,[4] 2019년에는 43억달러로 늘어났다.

웨이브 머니는 2018년 6월 유엔 자본개발기금, 호주 외교통상부와 연계해 젊은 여성들이 금융 개념을 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 돕는 것을 목적으로 하는 금융교육 게임화 앱 슈웨 토우를 출시했다.[6][7]

웨이브 머니(Wave Money)는 2019년 3월 미얀마 경제은행과 협력해 정부 연금 수급자들에게 모바일 연금 지급을 제공했다.[8]

요마전략은 2019년 11월 퍼스트 미얀마 인베스트먼트로부터 지분 10%를 취득했다.[9]

알리바바 그룹의 핀테크 계열사인 앤트파이낸셜그룹은 2020년 5월 웨이브머니의 지분 33%를 신주발행 방식으로 만들겠다는 취지로 7,350만달러의 투자를 발표했다.[10][11]

요마전략은 2020년 6월 텔레노어의 웨이브 머니 지분 51% 전량을 인수할 계획으로 요마 MFS(Wave Holdco)를 설립했다.[12][13]
