디스트로키드는 미국 기업가 필립 J. "퍼드" 카플란이 2013년[1] 설립한 독립적인 디지털 음악 배급 서비스다.디스트로키드는 주로 음악가들과 다른 권리 소유자들에게 그들의 음악을 아이튠즈/애플 뮤직, 스포티파이, 판도라, 아마존 뮤직, 유튜브 뮤직, 조일, 디저, 아이하트 라디오 등과 같은 온라인 소매점을 통해 유통하고 판매하거나 스트리밍할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.

역사

디스트로키드는 필립 J. 카플란이 2012년 개발, 2013년 중반 출시했다.[2]카플란의 음악 소셜 네트워크인 팬덤의 사이드 피쳐링으로 시작되어 2015년 자체 회사로 분리되었다.[3][1]

2015년 7월, 뮤지컬 배우 잭앤잭의 디스트로키드 발매가 아이튠즈 차트에서 전 세계 1위에 올랐다.[4][5]이는 특히 디스트로키드가 로열티를 받지 않기 때문에 주목받았는데, 이는 처음으로 차트 1위 아티스트가 100% 수익을 유지할 수 있었다.[3]

디스트로키드는 2016년 5월 공동작업자 및 주주들에게 로열티가 자동 발송될 수 있도록 하는 기능인 '팀'을 출시했다.[6][7]이후 디스트로키드는 직접 업로드하거나 회사와[8][9][10] 직접 라이선스 계약을 맺은 스포티파이 아티스트를 위한 교차 플랫폼 업로드를 지원하기 위해 스포티파이와의 제휴, 실버스미스 캐피털 파트너스의 투자 등 여러 가지 다른 개발을 해왔다.[11]

이 회사는 2021년에 새로운 아티스트를 찾기 위해 레코드 레이블이 데이터를 채굴할 수 있도록 하는 이니셔티브를 시작했다.플랫폼을 통해 아티스트를 발굴하는 레이블이 서명한 신인 아티스트별 음반사로부터 파인더 수수료를 받는다.이니셔티브에 참여한 첫 번째 라벨은 리퍼블릭 레코드였다.[12]
