캐나다 공학 협회(EIC) (프랑스어: l'Institut canadian des ingénieurs; ICI)는 캐나다에 본부를 둔 12개의 공학 협회의 연합체로,[1] 광범위한 공학 지부를 포함하며 1887년으로 거슬러 올라가는 역사를 가지고 있다.[2][3][4][5] 캐나다 토목공학회로 처음 알려진 이 협회는 캐나다 최초의 국가 전문 공학 협회가 되었다.[6]

역사

이 기구는 1887년 캐나다 토목 공학 협회라는 이름으로 설립되었다(더 최근의 캐나다 토목 공학 협회와 혼동하지 않기 위해). 공동 창업자 토마스 C. 키퍼는 초대 대통령으로 선출되었다. 합병을 도운 월터 샤넬리는 카시미르 지조스키, 존 케네디와 함께 초대 부의장 중 한 명이 되었다. 그리고 헨리 T. 보비는 초대 비서 겸 회계 담당이었다. 1918년, 그 협회는 모든 공학 학부를 대표할 목적으로 캐나다 공학 연구소로 개칭되었다. 이후 이 기구는 1970년 캐나다 기계공학회를 시작으로 보다 독립적인 회원사회의 연합으로 전환되었다.[3][4][5]

1963년부터 캐나다 공학연구소(EIC)는 매년 "공학의 우수성"과 "직업과 사회에 대한 그들의 서비스"를 인정하기 위해 펠로우(People) 수준으로 일부 회원을 선출했다.[21] 처음에 펠로우들은 EIC의 회원이었고, 연간 선출된 수는 1명(1967년)과 78명(1980년) 사이에서 다양했다. 최근에는 매년 최대 20명이 선출되는 지명 EIC 회원사회의 회원이다.[when?][21]
