조슈아 A. 바로는 비즈니스 인사이더의 선임 편집자 겸 칼럼니스트인 미국 언론인이다.[1] 그는 로스앤젤레스 KCRW에 본사를 둔 주간 라디오 프로그램 Left, Right, Center를 진행한다.[2]

초년기

바로는 하버드대 교수 겸 거시경제학자 로버트 바로의 아들이다.[3] 매사추세츠에서 자란 뒤 바로는 하버드 대학에서 심리학 학사 학위를 받았다.[4] 대학에 다니는 동안, 그는 그로버 노퀴스트의 인턴으로 여름을 보냈다.[5]

경력

바로는 이전에 맨해튼정책연구소의 선임연구원,[6] 웰스파고의 부동산 은행원,[7] 더티커(블룸버그 L.P.가 주최한 사라진 경제·정치 블로그), 비즈니스 인사이더(Business Insider)의 정치 편집자로 활동한 바 있다.[8]

2013년 초에는 수조 달러짜리 동전의 유력한 후원자였지만 2013년 말쯤에는 마음을 바꿨다.[10][11]

타임지는 바로의 트위터 피드를 정치 부문 10개 중 하나인 "2013년 최고의 트위터 피드 140개" 중 하나로 선정했다.[12] 2012년 포브스는 그를 '30세 이하 가장 밝은 30세 이하' 매체 중 하나로 선정했고, 데이비드 브룩스는 그를 '진실하고 영향력 있는 중도-우파 대화'의 일환으로 꼽았다.[6][13] 버락 오바마의 전 보좌관은 바로를 오바마가 가장 좋아하는 칼럼니스트의 짧은 명단에 포함시켰다.[14]

2014년에 바로는 비즈니스 인사이더를 떠나 뉴욕 타임즈의 "The Upshot"[4][15]에 합류했다. 2016년 바로는 비즈니스 인사이더에 선임 편집위원으로 재취업했다.[16] 2018년에는 다시 비즈니스 인사이더를 떠나 뉴욕 매거진의 비즈니스 칼럼니스트가 되었다.[17] 2020년에는 정치, 기업, 경제를 다루는 칼럼니스트로 비즈니스 인사이더에 재입사한다고 발표했다.[18][19]

정치적 견해

경력 초기에, 바로는 자신을 공화당원이라고 표현했지만 많은 정책들을 비판했다.[20] 그는 또한 신자유주의자로 확인했다.[21] 바로는 동성애에 관한 전통적인 기독교 신앙에 반대해 왔으며, 동성애자들이 "울고 억압"하며 "무참하게 억압되어야 한다"고 말했다.[22][23]

햄버거 문제

바로는 햄버거 문제라는 용어를 사용하여 미국의 일부 진보주의자들이 그들의 개인적 선택에 있어 사람들을 성가시게 하는 경향을 비판하였다. 예를 들어, 고기 햄버거를 먹는 것은 동물들에게 해롭고, 지구 온난화에 기여하고, 건강에 해롭다는 주장을 근거로 비판될 수 있다.[27][28][29][30]

사생활

바로는 맨해튼에 살고 있으며 게이라고 한다. 2017년에는 TIPAH컨설팅 회장 겸 전 민주당 전국위원회 간사인 재커리 알렌과 결혼했다.[31] 그는 [32]무신론자다
