마드후기리 샤마라오 아나타파드마나바 라오(1926~1985)는 1959년 인도 델리대 사회학과 설립자 멤버였던 사회학과 교수였다. 그는 영양의 사회적 측면, 도시와 농촌 사회학, 이주의 사회학, 사회적 지배 등의 주제에 대해 폭넓게 집필하고 편집했다.[1] 그는 연구의 일부로서 많은 현장 연구를 했다.[2]

교육과 진로
델리 대학에서 활동하기 전에 라오는 봄베이 대학에서 공부한 적이 있으며, 그곳에서 G.S.구례와 평생 연대를 맺었다. 라오는 계속해서 미국 (시러큐스 대학과 펜실베이니아 대학)과 영국 (동양 및 아프리카 대학)에서 방문 약속을 했다. 그는 학술 회의에 자주 참석했고 그러기 위해 널리 여행했다. 그의 작품에 대한 인정은 1979년 G. S. 구례상 수상, 1982년 아시아협회의 S. C. 로이 메모리얼 금메달 수상, 최소 1개의 게덴크슈리프트 출판 등 다양한 형태로 이루어졌다.[2][3]
죽음과 유산
안드레 베티유에 따르면 라오는 1985년 12월 12일 사망했으며, 이때 그는 프로 경력의 절정에서 사망했다고 한다.[2] 그의 죽음에 이어 추모 장학금과[4] 학술상 등이 이름을 올렸다.[5]
