기능. 진핵생물번역개시인자2 (eIF2 )는 GTP 및 이니시에이터 tRNA와 3원복합체를 형성하고 40S 리보솜 서브유닛에 결합함으로써 단백질 합성의 초기 단계에서 기능한다.eIF2는 알파(α), 베타(β, 본 기사) 및 감마(γ) 의 3개의 서브유닛으로 구성되며, 이 유전자에 의해 부호화된 단백질은 베타 서브유닛을 나타낸다. 베타 서브유닛은 GTP에 대한 GDP 의 교환을 촉매하여 eIF2 복합체를 또 다른 [6] 시작 단계에 재활용한다.
