게임비스 주식회사(Gamebiss, Inc.,[2] 이전 Wikipedia, Inc.)[3]는 캘리포니아주 시미밸리에 본사를 둔 게임제품 전문 태블릿 및 태블릿 주변기기 제조업체다.

데뷔 제품은 안드로이드 태블릿 전용 하드웨어인 위키피디아(Wikipedia)로, 분리형 컨트롤러가 탑재됐다.Gamebuice는 Gamebuice라는 이름으로 다시 브랜드화된 주변장치 전용 제품으로 시장에 나왔다.[4]

2012년 1월 10일 미국 라스베이거스에서 열린 가전전시회(CES)에서 위키피디아는 2D와 안경 없는 3D 지원 기기로 모두 선보였다.[9]소니가 두 달 뒤인 2012년 7월 인수한 클라우드 게임 서비스 가이카이(Gaikai)는 2012년 5월 자사의 스트리밍 서비스를 태블릿에 통합하기 위해 위키백과드와 제휴했다.[10][11]

위키피디아는 당초 2011년 10월 31일 발매 예정이었으나 당초 발매 예정일에 무기한 연기되었다.[12] 위키피디아는 미국에서 2013년 6월 11일에 249달러의 가격표를 가지고 발매되었다.[13][14]

2014년 3월, 게임 플레이를 개선하기 위한 노력으로 터치스크린 게임 컨트롤을 실제 위키백과드 컨트롤러에 매핑할 수 있도록 도와주는 게임 제어 매핑 도구가 발표되었다.[15]또한 3월에는 위키피디아 가격이 199달러까지 떨어졌다.[15]2014년 6월에는 온라이브 클라우드 게임 지원이 위키피디아에 추가됐다.[16]

유로게머는 위키피디아의 화면 크기와 의도에 대해 "정당한 곳에 심장이 있다"고 평가하면서도 강력한 안드로이드 게임 부족, 높은 출시 가격, 구식 사양과 소프트웨어 등이 기기의 매력을 제한했다고 판단했다.[17]

IGN은 기기 출시 당시에도 도서관의 게임 부족, 허술한 구축, 구식이라고 여겨졌던 소프트웨어 등을 고려해 위키피디아에 좋지 않은 평가를 내렸다."Wikipedia는 안드로이드 태블릿을 게임용 핸드헬드로 바꾸려는 시도에서 대부분 실패한 시도"[18]라고 결론짓는다.

Engadget이 실시한 리뷰의 집계는 비평가들 사이에서 위키피디아의 평균 리뷰 점수가 100분의 58로 나타났다.[19]

2014년 1월 위키피디아는 모바일 기기 커버리지 확대를 위해 게임비스라는 새로운 컨트롤러를 발표했다.[20][21]Gamebiss는 고전적인 D-패드, 트윈 트리거, A, B, X, Y 버튼, 듀얼 아날로그 스틱이 장착된 분리형 컨트롤러다.[21][22]

2017년 1월 31일 아이폰7용 새로운 게임부스 컨트롤러가 출시되었다.[23]게임비스는 2018년 2월 15일 게임비스 컨트롤러, 컨트롤러 운반 케이스, iOS에서 마인크래프트 다운로드 코드 등이 포함된 마인크래프트 테마 컨트롤러 번들을 발표·출시했다.[24]

합법적

게임비스는 2017년 8월 닌텐도 스위치의 디자인이 위키백과 디자인 특허와 상충된다며 미국 캘리포니아 중부지법에 닌텐도를 상대로 소송을 제기했다.이 소송은 기존 스위치 판매에 대한 손해배상과 콘솔의 추가 판매를 금지했다.[25]이 소송은 2017년 10월 게임비스가 자진해 기각한 것이다.[26]

하지만 2018년 3월 게임비스는 닌텐도에 대해 다른 특허 세트와 관련한 두 번째 특허 침해 소송을 시작했다.게임부스는 1930년 관세법 337조에 따른 특허침해와 관련한 미국 국제무역위원회를 통해 조치를 모색했고, 미국으로의 스위치 수입차단을 모색하고 있었다.[27][28][29]

2019년 10월 10일 미국 국제무역위원회가 337조 위반이 발생하지 않았다는 행정법무부 재판관의 초기 결정의 결론을 긍정하기로 결정했다고 주장하며 닌텐도를 상대로 한 소송이 종료됐다.[30]

게임비스는 2020년 3월 27일 USITC에 닌텐도를 상대로 특허침해소송을 새로 제기한 데 이어 패소했다.[31]그것은 닌텐도에 유리하게 끝났다.[32][33]
