제네시스(Genesis Motor, LLC)는 흔히 제네시스(한국어: 제stasec, 로마자: Jenesiseu)로 불리는 한국 자동차 제조사 현대자동차그룹의 고급차 부문이다. 당초 2004년 현대차의 신형 럭셔리 제네시스 세단 계획과 함께 구상된 제네시스 브랜드는 2015년 11월 4일 독립된 마크로 공식 발표돼 2017년 첫 제네시스 독립형 모델인 제네시스 G90을 출시했다.[1][2] 제네시스 모델은 독일 뤼셀셰임(독일), 남양(한국), 어바인(미국) 등에서 디자인되고 울산(한국)에서 생산된다.[3][4] 제이디파워는 2020년 제네시스를 가장 신뢰할 수 있는 자동차 브랜드로, 2021년 북미에서 가장 기술적으로 혁신적인 브랜드로 선정했다.[5][6][7]

역사

구상 및 현대하

현대차는 2003년 '컨셉 제네시스'를 구상하고 2007년 '현대식 후륜구동 스포츠 세단에 대한 진보적 해석'으로 첫 모델을 선보였다.[8] 차체 디자인은 3년이 걸렸고 프로그램 총 비용은 23개월의 개발 기간 동안 5억 달러였다. 신뢰성 테스트는 80만 마일 동안 진행되었다.[9]

제네시스를 현대차로 팔지, 아니면 별도 유통망으로 팔지, 아니면 현대 대리점을 통해 새 브랜드를 내놓을지 내부 논란이 일었다.[10] 현대차는 2008년 북미국제오토쇼에서 제네시스를 선보였다.[11]

독립형 브랜드

2015년 크리스 호스포드 현대 미국 대변인은 제네시스를 독립 브랜드로 만든 세 가지 주요 이유를 들었다.[12]

  • 제네시스는 이미 고급차 시장에서 7년 동안 성공을 거두었다.
  • 제네시스는 3대 부문 판매사 중 1위를 차지했다.
  • 고객들은 별도의 제네시스 부서를 요구했다.

제네시스 자동차는 2015년 12월 9일 첫 모델인 G90(국내 EQ900)을 출시했다고 발표했다.[13] 제네시스는 2016년 말 미국에서 G80과 G90으로 출시했다. 미국에서는 제네시스 차량이 기존 현대 딜러의 서브셋을 통해 판매되고 있으며, 딜러점 전시실 내에 제네시스를 위한 지정 공간이 마련되어 있다.

보도에 따르면 2018년 6월 J.D.에서는 제네시스 자동차가 1위를 차지했다. 파워의 초기 품질 연구.[14]

제네시스는 2021년 5월 제네시스 G70 슈팅브레이크의 데뷔와 함께 유럽 시장에 출시했다.[15] 제네시스는 현재 한국, 중국, 중동, 러시아, 캐나다, 호주와 미국, 유럽, 그리고 나머지 아시아 지역에서 판매되고 있다.[2][16][17]

모델

역사

제네시스 최초 차량은 국내에서 브랜드의 대표 모델인 제네시스 G90으로 시판됐다.[13] 2016년 말 미국에서 G80(이전 현대제네시스로 판매)과 G90(이전 현대 에쿠스로 판매) 두 가지 모델로 론칭했다. 2016년 9월 14일, 세 번째 모델인 Genesis G70이 한국 남양에서 공개되었다.[18] G70은 2018년 3월 28일 뉴욕 오토쇼에서 미국 시장에 소개되었다.[19]

이 브랜드의 첫 번째 SUV인 GV80은 2020년 1월 14일에 정식 출시되었다.[20] 제네시스는 2021년 4월 첫 생산 전기차 '일렉트리피드 G80'을 공개했다.[21] 제네시스는 2021년 상하이 국제자동차산업박람회에서 전기화 G80, 제네시스 X 콘셉트, EV 기반의 그란 투리스모 콘셉트카 등 3종의 신차를 선보였다.[22] 제네시스는 2021년 8월 이 브랜드의 신형 EV SUV인 최신형 GV60을 직접 공개했다.[23]

이름 지정 및 현재 라인업

제네시스는 영숫자 명명 규칙을 따른다. 자동차 모델은 문자 "G"와 숫자 (70, 80, 90 등)를 조합하여 명명하고 크로스오버는 문자 "GV"와 숫자를 조합하여 명명한다.[24]

미래계획

G90이 출시된 뒤 2017년 출시할 중급 세단(G80)과 근급 세단(G70) 계획이 유출됐고, 이후 2020년까지 중급 SUV와 근급 SUV, 근급 스포츠 쿠페가 뒤따른다.[25]

2022년까지 스포츠 쿠페 1대와 크로스오버 2대가 예상돼 제네시스 모델은 최소 6대가 될 전망이다. 또한 2018년 제네시스는 그랜드 투어링 모델 3종을 준비하여 GT70, GT80, GT90 상표를 등록하였다.[26][1]

개념

현대비전G는 제네시스의 정식 출시를 앞두고 별도 행진곡으로 내세웠지만 제네시스 배지를 달고 데뷔하면서 제네시스 브랜드에 대한 기획 액션을 선보였다.[27]

장재훈(Jay) 회장은 글로벌 대표이사 겸 부사장이다.[34] 뤽 돈커울케 전 폭스바겐 자회사 벤틀리, 람보르기니, 아우디의 디자인담당 이사가 최고 창조책임자다.[35] 클라우디아 마르케즈 전 인피니티 영업운영담당 상무는 제네시스 북미의 COO이다.[36][37] 마르쿠스 헨 전 메르세데스-벤츠 부사장은 제네시스모터차이나의 최고경영자(CEO)다.[38] 벤틀리 컨티넨탈 GT와 C-6 쉐보레 코르벳의 전 디자이너인 이상엽이 디자인 책임자다.[39] 필립포 페리니 전 람보르기니 디자인총괄 사장은 수석 디자이너다.[40] 알버트 비어만 전 BMW M 퍼포먼스 부문장은 성능개발 및 고성능 차량 총괄 부사장으로 튜닝과 퍼포먼스를 총괄한다.[41][42] Fayez Rahman 전 BMW 개발 리더는 건축 개발 부사장이다.[43] 슈코다와 폴크스바겐의 전 디자이너인 안드레아 젠슨은 머리 색깔과 머리 모양을 하고 있다.

생산골재

제네시스는 2015년 11월부터 2018년 10월까지 총 20만6882대를 판매했는데, 이 중 12만7283대가 G80 모델, 52만417대가 G90대, 2만7182대가 G70이었다.[44] 제네시스는 2016년 국내에서 6만6029대를 판매했다.[45]

마케팅

제네시스는 NFL의 공식 후원사, 리비에라 컨트리클럽의 제네시스 인비테이셔널, 스코틀랜드 오픈,[46] 콘데 나스트 국제회의 등이다.[47][48] 건축가 렘 쿨하스는 서울 강남구에서 세계 최초로 제네시스 쇼룸을 설계했다.[49] 클라우드 기반 서비스인 제네시스 커넥티드 서비스는 실내 온도 조절로 원격 시동, 원격 잠금/잠금 해제 등의 원격 차량 기능을 iOS, 안드로이드, 아마존과 함께 개발한 알렉사 스킬 등에 탑재할 수 있다.[50] 제네시스 인텔리전트 어시스턴트는 안드로이드와 iOS용으로 개발돼 제네시스 커넥티드 서비스와 비슷한 서비스를 제공했다.[51]

스튜디오

  • 하남 제네시스 스튜디오

2016년 9월 9일 경기도 하남시 미사대로 750번지 스타필드에 제네시스 스튜디오 하남이 문을 열었다. 스튜디오는 약 476m² 규모로 빈티지한 콘크리트 마감과 방수 강판이 기존 전시관과는 차이가 있다. 스튜디오에는 플래그십 모델과 신차, 콘셉트카, 외장 색상, 인테리어 자재 등을 확인할 수 있는 실제 차량 도어가 전시돼 있다.[52]

2018년 1월 6일 강남구 영동대로 410번지에 제네시스 스튜디오 강남이 문을 열었다. 강남 스튜디오는 엔진 라인업과 모든 모델의 다른 색상을 보여준다. 브랜드 감성과 철학을 보여주는 제네시스 스튜디오 하남과 달리 제네시스 강남은 제품 경험을 중심으로 공간을 구축했다. 약 1296m² 규모로 빈티지 콘크리트 마감재, 열연강판 등 기존 전시장과는 다른 재료와 기법을 적용했다.[53][54]

경기도 용인시 수지구 풍덕천로197번비온길 11번지에 2020년 7월 30일 문을 연 제네시스 수지는 지상 4층, 약 4992m² 규모의 국내 최대 규모의 제네시스 차량 전시관이다. 건물 외관은 내후성 강판을 사용해 제네시스의 가치를 표현했다. 전시관 내부는 목재 알갱이 무늬와 유리(1~3층)로 각인된 노출콘크리트와 연결된 개방형 구조물로 과감한 공간미를 구현했다.

2020년 11월 19일 경기도 안성시 공도읍 서동대로 3930~39번지에 문을 연 제네시스 스튜디오 안성은 하남시에 이어 두 번째 쇼핑몰형 공간으로 약 664m² 규모로 조성됐다. 제네시스 전 모델은 관람, 체험, 구매가 가능하며 브랜드 체험존, 제품 체험존, 내외부 체험존, 시승 체험존 등 총 4개 체험존으로 구성된다.[55]
