국제연구교류위원회(IREX)는 글로벌 교육과 개발을 전문으로 하는 비영리 국제기구다.IREX는 100개 이상의 국가에서 파트너와 협력한다.[4]

역사

IREX는 1968년 미국학술협회, 포드 재단, 사회과학연구회, 미국 국무부에 의해 설립되었다.[5][6][7]IREX는 철의 장막이 무너질 때까지 미국과 소련 간의 학술 교류를 진행했다.[5]

소련 붕괴 후 IREX는 민주 개혁을 지원하고 조직을 강화하기 위한 사업을 시행하였다.[8]IREX는 교육교류, 개발도상국 시민사회 강화, 인터넷 접속 증가, 기자 및 언론기관 교육 및 지원 등을 위한 프로그램을 운영했다.[9][10][11]

활동.

IREX는 시민사회, 교육, 성별, 거버넌스, 리더십, 미디어, 기술, 청소년 등에 초점을 맞춘 프로그램을 설계하고 시행한다.[12]

이러한 프로그램들에는 젊은 아프리카 지도자들을 위한 만델라 워싱턴 펠로우십,[13][14] 세계 스마트 스템 챌린지,[15][16] 그리고 시민들이 부정행위와 가짜 뉴스를 인식하도록 돕는 접근방식으로 논의되어 왔다.[17][18][19]
