프리덤 오브 더 프레스(Freedom of the Pressure)는 미국 비정부기구 프리덤하우스가 매년 발간하는 보고서로, 전 세계 모든 국가와 중대한 분쟁 지역에서 언론이 누리는 자유와 편집 독립성의 수준을 측정하고 있다. 자유 수준은 1(가장 자유)에서 100(최저 자유)까지 척도로 점수가 매겨진다. 등급에 따라 국가는 "자유", "부분적 자유", 또는 "자유롭지 않다"로 분류된다.

민주주의 지수는 경제정보부가 167개국의 민주주의 상태를 측정하는 지표로 이 가운데 166개국이 주권국가, 165개가 유엔 회원국이다. 이코노미스트 인텔리전스 유닛의 민주주의 지수는 선거 과정과 다원주의, 시민의 자유, 정부의 기능, 정치 참여, 정치 문화 등 5개 항목으로 분류된 60개 지표를 기반으로 한다. 이 지수는 2006년에 처음 생산되었고, 2008년, 2010년, 2011년에 업데이트되었다.
