오토 실링

Otto Schilling

오토 프란츠 게오르크 실링(Otto Franz Georg Schilling, 1911년 11월 3일 ~ 1973년 6월 20일)은 당대의 대표적인 대수학자 중 한 명으로 알려진 독일계 미국인 수학자였다.[1]

그는 아폴다에서 태어나 1930년대에 에미 노에더 휘하의 우니베르시테트 예나(Universitette Jena)와 괴팅겐(Universitettingen)에서 공부했다.노에더가 나치에 의해 독일을 떠나도록 강요된 후, 헬무트 하세에서 새로운 고문을 발견하였고,[2] 1934년 마르부르크 대학교에서 산틱 하이퍼콤플렉서 자흘코르페르와 대수학자인 자흘코르페르라는 논문에 대한 박사 학위를 취득하였다.[3]그 후 그는 캠브리지 트리니티 칼리지에서 박사학위를 받은 후 1935-37년[4] 존스홉킨스 대학으로 옮겨갔다.1939년 시카고 대학의 강사가 되었고,[2] 1943년 조교수로 승진했으며, 1945년 부교수로, 1958년 전교수로 승진했다.1961년에 그는 퍼듀 대학교로 이사했다.그는 일리노이주 하이랜드 공원에서 사망했다.그의 제자들은 게임 이론가 아나톨 라포포트와 수학자 할리 플랜더스였다.[3]
