테트라스파닌-2는 인간에게 TSPAN2 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질이다.[5][6][7]
이 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질은 테트라스파닌 계열로도 알려진 트랜섬브레인 4 슈퍼패밀리의 일원이다.이들 구성원의 대부분은 세포 표면 단백질로, 4개의 소수성 영역이 존재하는 것이 특징이다.단백질은 세포 발달, 활성화, 성장, 운동성의 조절에 역할을 하는 신호 전달 사건을 중재한다.[7]
