EMC E4는 일리노이주 라그랑지의 전기-모티브사가 제작한 2,000마력(1,500kW), A1A-A1A 여객열차 주행 디젤 기관차였다.모두 시보드 항공 철도를 위해 건설되었다.E4는 EMD E-units로 알려진 유사한 설계의 긴 줄의 승객용 다이스엘의 다섯 번째 모델이었다.
2,000 hp(1,500 kW)는 2개의 EMC 모델 567 V12 엔진이 1,000 hp(750 kW)를 개발하여 달성되었으며, 각 엔진은 트랙션 모터에 동력을 공급하기 위해 자체 발전기를 구동한다.
EA, E1A, E3A, E4A, E5A 및 E6A 택시 장치의 전면 코는 측면에서 볼 때 뚜렷한 기울기가 있었다.그래서 이들 6개 모델에는 '슬레이트 코' 유닛이라는 별명이 붙었다.이후 E-unit 모델들은 F-units와 같은 무감각한 "Bulldog nose"를 받았다.
아이러니하게도 E4는 E3보다 먼저 생산되었다.두 모델 모두 동일하며, E4는 기관차 구성의 장치들 사이에서 승무원들이 쉽게 이동할 수 있도록 공압식으로 작동하는 코 도어 통로를 갖췄기 때문에 절약할 수 있다.
E4는 1964년까지 모두 은퇴하고 폐기되었다.
