칸다카두 치료재활센터는 이전에 칸다카두 마약재활센터로 알려진 곳으로 스리랑카 북서부 폴론나루와 지구의 웰리칸다에 위치한 재활센터다.현재 법무부 산하 재활청장국이 운영하고 있다.재활센터는 현재 세나푸라재활센터와 함께 마약 중독자와 COVID-19 환자 치료에 사용되고 있다.[1]

이 센터는 2014년 상담, 직업교육, 훈련 등을 통해 마약중독자를 치료하는 마약재활센터로 탈바꿈했다.[2]

재활센터는 2020년 3월 스리랑카 정부에 의해 COVID-19 대유행 당시 외국에서 온 승객과 관광객을 대상으로 PCR 검사를 실시하는 주요 검역소 중 하나로 제안되었다.[3]스리랑카 정부는 외국인 승객들이 센터에서 14일 동안 의무적으로 자체 검역을 받도록 의무적으로 지침을 만들었다.[4]스리랑카군은 보건부와 협력하여 환자들을 위해 필요한 의료 도구, 와이파이 통신 도구, 온도계, 세탁소, 오락 시설을 설치하여 센터의 시설을 업그레이드했다.[5]

2020년 7월, 이 센터는 7월 한 달 동안 300건 이상을 기록한 스리랑카에서 COVID-19 대유행의 새로운 서사시가 되었다.[6]스리랑카군은 2020년 7월 9일 칸다카두 재활센터와 가까운 COVID-19 병원으로 검역소를 전환했다.[7]

7월 7일, 마약과 통제된 물질에 중독된 사람들을 위해 동 칸다카두의 치료재활센터에서 수감자가 6월 27일 감옥으로 이송된 새로운 사건이 기록되었다.[8][9][10]2020년 7월 9일 칸다카두 치료재활센터 수용자 253명의 기록적인 집계가 COVID-19 양성반응을 보였다.[11][12]2020년 7월 10일 칸다카두 치료재활센터에서 총 283명이 COVID-19 양성반응을 보였다.그 센터는 그 나라의 새로운 COVID-19 클러스터로 부상했다.[13][14][15]
